Calvary Quilters Ministry
Founded in 2000 by Cynthia
Richardson and Dorothy Spivey, this group of ladies work tirelessly creating
quilted masterpieces including blankets, matching quilt bags, placemats, table
runners, and even goody bags for all of our visiting missionaries. Jeanene Mathews grew up on the mission field
as her parents served in Costa Rica and Guatemala. She explained that
missionaries leave a lot behind; everything they know, their families, and most
of their possessions. They have to give
up a lot so creating these quilted gifts is a way to remind each missionary
that someone is thinking of them and praying for them regularly.

A typical meeting of the quilters looks a lot like a lifegroup. The morning begins with coffee and fellowship; sharing the ups and downs of life with each other as they work. After a break for lunch the ladies may do some shopping at JoAnns Fabrics before heading back to the Willie Williams Building to continue creating until the late afternoon.
Janie Rabago said she didn’t know how to sew when she started working with the quilters ministry. In fact, she said that Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through him who strengthens me” often came to mind as she was learning. The ladies have taught her diligently every step of the way and they are willing to share the love and art of quilting with anyone interested. Mona Torrez and Jan Hill reiterated how much fun the quilting ministry is and that they have blocked out every Monday so they can be there!
The Calvary Baptist
Quilters ministry meets at 10:30am every Monday in the Willie Williams Building. Anyone who is interested in learning about
quilting or would like to be involved in this ministry is invited to stop by -
even if you don’t know how to sew a single stitch!
