All In Prayer Booklet: Week 5 - Sunday
Praying For Needs
Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall
supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
In the 17
words of
this verse, the Apostle Paul truly speaks volumes. Perhaps the real beauty of
this text lies in the fact that it is addressed to a very needy human race. You
see, unlike the animal kingdom, our needs far exceed the physical essentials of
air, food, light, and shelter. We humans have emotional needs. The need to be
loved, accepted, and needed. We also have Spiritual needs. We long to know our
Creator and to find our place within His universe. We long to be assured of our
status in eternity. We also have mental needs, psychological needs, social
needs, economic needs. We are an infinitely needy people! But when we read and
believe the words of our text:
“But my God shall supply all your need
according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
It is like a glass of cold water to the
parched. Like bread to the man who is starving. Like medicine to one lying upon
his death-bed.
Notice
that this verse doesn’t say that “God shall supply all your need out of his riches…” It says that “God
shall supply all your need according
to his riches…” In other words, His gracious provision will exceed your
expectations!
Some
have lost the present tense blessing of this verse by taking the phrase, “in
glory” to describe Heaven. In other words,
“When we get to glory, God will supply all of our needs according to His
riches.” But we won’t have any needs in Heaven! The phrase, “in glory” is
describing the glorious manner in which God will supply the needs of this life,
for the Christian.
This
week we come before the Sovereign Owner of all that is- asking His provision to
make disciples through His church.
“He that spared not His own Son, but
delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all
things?”

Apostle Paul
